What is Terraseal?
Terraseal, produced exclusively by Terraseal Limited, offers a lining product that is simple to install and has proven very effective in a range of applications.
Lining systems are required for a wide variety of applications from canals to contamination barriers, from damp proof membranes to vapour seals. These barrier systems come in a wide variety of materials, styles and features for which installations can require specially trained engineers, often inclusive of especially designed equipment and plant.
Terraseal is a super absorbent polymer impregnated nonwoven geotextile, created in a specialist patented production process. Its weight varies by the substrate and amount of SAP specified but on average it weighs 500 grammes per square meter (gsm) and is available in widths up to 2000mm and lengths to agreed preference. Due to its light-weight nature, Terraseal can be installed quickly and without the need for specialist training or tools and minimal heavy plant equipment. From a health and safety point of view, this allows for a considerably reduced potential for physical damage to personnel. Furthermore, there are substantial savings to be had in installation time and the associated costs involved, potentially allowing for project completion ahead of schedule leaving opportunities for pre-agreed bonuses. Alternatively, equipment and/or higher trained staff’s capabilities can be utilised elsewhere to accelerate project progress on this site or others as required.
Chemical attack is a major concern for some lining products which can cause break down and failure. Terraseal and its associated components are resistant to a wide range of chemicals and contaminants to include leachates, oils, saltwater, calcium and some water based solvents, to name but a few.
Finally, longevity and strength of product must be taken into account when choosing a lining system to avoid remedial work, not to mention the installers’ reputation. The special SAP that is impregnated within Terraseal is such that it remains dormant until it comes into contact with water or water-based liquid solutions to include slurry, sewerage or even blood. Upon contact with these water-based substances, the SAP within Terraseal will immediately react and within seconds create a seal. This activated Terraseal has the enviable benefit of being a self-healing membrane in that damage to the barrier, i.e. sharp aggregates, branches, etc, will immediately seal to maintain the barrier. Once the presence of water is removed, Terraseal will evaporate back to its original condition and await its next opportunity to react. The longevity of this ability to react and return has been proven, through independent accelerate testing, to remain effective for 20+ years.
All things considered, Terraseal is a strong, versatile and user friendly lining system that is proving more and more popular with contractors and private users alike.
